Burke was rescued from a high kill shelter in Los Angeles, CA by a different rescue and shortly thereafter transferred to Pawsitive Match. Not much is known about his life before he was rescued from LA but it seems pretty certain that his life wasn't easy and that he may have been abused. He is very shy and timid and is uncomfortable being handled and touched. Because of that he has bitten a few of his previous fosters and is now on his fifth foster home where he is doing well.
He is good with the other two dogs in his foster home, but still becomes a little nervous when they try to initiate play. He loves playing with his own toys and chasing them around. He is slowly learning to trust his foster mom and dad. He really wants to be a part of the family and loves to cuddle up next to them but doesn't want to be pet or handled too much. He seems to be a bit more comfortable with women as his foster mom can now pet him and even pick him up. He still becomes nervous if his foster dad pets him but he is happy to snuggle up beside him so he is making progress learning to trust people. Burke's ideal home will be one without children and with a calm, loving and patient owner who will allow him all the time he needs to learn to trust them.
